    His mother, Esther Ashurst, married Anthony Carlton by banns on 4 June 1827 in the parish church in Wigan, Lancashire, England.

    I have not located the birth record for William but he claimed he was born 11 Jun 1836 when he joined the Utah Militia
    and he gave his birth date as 11 Jun 1835 when he received his endowments. Both his birth dates were when his mother was married to Anthony Carlton.

    Esther claimed she was a widow when she married John Foster but I believe he abandoned her and William and Henry, her son out of wedlock
    and took their son Anthony and returned to his parents home.
