      McMahon died in his home in Doylestown Monday of cerebral hemorrhage, aged 74 years, 6 months, 1 day. John Edward McMahon was born in Monohan county, Ireland, March 27, 1840. At 5 years of age he came to the United States and for 7 years reside d in New York until 1852 he came to Otsego, enlisting in Co. B. 7th Wis. Volunteers Aug. 8, 1862. Wounded at the battle of Gainesville, VA., Aug. 28, 1862, and lay on the battlefield for 72 hours. He was honorable discharged in 1863. Nov 15, 186 3 he was united in marriage with Miss Elizabeth Starr, at Fox Lake, residing in Otsego for 12 years when they moved to the old home in Fountain Prairie. Ten children were born to their union. John, Hugh and Martha having preceded their father i n death. The deceased was a man whose genial personality won him friends and admiration wheresoever he moved. Being possessed of a very determined nature he was always willing and ready to do quickly what he thought to be right. A man who durin g his life had many offices of public trust conferred upon and was always as faithful to duty's call as he was to answer the first call of his country. A true and faithful friend, an uncomplaining hero, a loved and obliging neighbor, whose plac e will not be easy to fill. He was a member of Geo. H. Brayton Post No. 271 G.A.R of Fall River and thirteen of his former comrads escorted his remains in Military ritual to St. Patrick's Catholic church Wednesday morning, where the bier was cov ered by the flag he fought and bled for rested near the sanctuary while Rev. H.R. Murphy chanted Requiem High Mass. The following were his own choice pall bearers: P.F. Kirley, M. Kirley, J.F. Kirley, F. Kirley, D.J. Kirley and A.B. Kirley.
