She was the subject of the colouful episode of Irish History known as the Rape of Dervorgila. The beautiful Dervorgilla was the lover of the passionate Dermot King of Leinster. She married Tiernan O'Rourke (one-eyed). In 1152 Dermot was at war w ith Tiernan so he attacked and carried off his wife (notunwillingly). She was taken back a year later by the High King Turlough O'connor. Within a year she was confined to the convent of Clonmacniose and nothing more was heard of her.
Dervorgilla married King of Leinster Diarmait Macdonnchada in 1152. Diarmait (son of King of Leinster Donnchad Macmurchada and Orlaith ingen O'Braenain) was born in 1110; died on 1 May 1171 in Ferns, Wexford, Leinster, Ireland. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
