Hugh McMahon Mr. Hugh McMahon, another of our pioneers, died as his home in Fountain Prairie, April 4, 1908. Mr. McMahon was born in the Col, Monohan, Ireland in 1825. Coming to America when but a boy, he resided for several years in Batavia an d Lima, N.Y. In the early years fifties he came west and located in Columbia county. On Sept. 2, 1855 he was married to Miss Mary Crinion in Portage, Wis., who still survives him. The deceased was a man of sterling qualities ever faithful in bus iness affairs. The weather was never too severe the morning hour, never to early for him to keep his verbal engagements under all circumstances was he ever friendly and jovial, the very soul of good fellowship at all time ready to lend you the h elping hand or tender you his services toward the realization of any project which proved itself worthy of his esteem. Many a widow and orphan here and occasion to be grateful for his sympathetic advice or pecuniary comfort. His was not an egoti stic or boastful nature. Whenever he performed any of his worthy deeds, his sensitive nature never again wanted to hear it mentioned. As his sorrowing friends encircled his new made grave their unuttered eulogy could be nothing less than he wa s an indulgent father, a true friend and esteemed neighbor, a good Christian man. The deceased leaves an aged wife and four children to mourn his loss. Mrs. Mary Kirley of Doylestown, Mrs. Annie Riordan of Kaukauna, Anthony McMahon of Rio, Ber t J. McMahon of Portland, Oregon, grandson, Daniel J. Kirley who has lived with him since a child and 20 other grandchildren, one sister Liza Connery of Oshkosh two brothers, John E. of this village and Philip of Pardeville. The relatives beyon d this parish who attended the funeral were as follows: Mr. and Mrs. Dan Riordan and sons Robt. and Ed. of Kaukauna, Mr. and Mrs. A. McMahon, Kate, Philip, Tony and Julian of Rio, Mr. and Mrs. Philip McMahon and Agnes and Mr. and Mrs. Will McMah on of Pardeville, Mrs. Connery and son Thos. of Oshkosh, Miss Jennie McMahon of Milwaukee, Mr. Jas. Crinnion and son Jones of Lost Lake, Pat Sullivan and son Earl of Tomah, Miss Katie Sullivan of Beaver Dam. Friends present from a distance wer e Dennis Finegan and Anna. Mrs. Chatfield, Kennedy Scott Thos. Ford and John Murphy, Rio. Edward Hughes, Edward Foley and family and Pat Kirly, Lost Lake, and Mrs. Malon, Beaver Dam and Mrs. Mike Kehoe, Fall River. The pallbearers were Frank Kir ley, Jas. Frawley, Mike and Thos. Grady, P.F. Doherty and T.R. Slattery. The funeral was held from St. Patrick's church Rev. M.B. Norton officiating. The internment was in the adjacent cemetery in the family lot, which contains the remains of hi s father and mother.
