      About the middle of November, 1667, a sensation was created in the settlement by the arrival of a baby. The first white child born in Woodbridge. The town recognized the event on May 18, 1717 after the child had grown to woman hood and married . She was Mary, daughter of William and Mary Compton. She married Caleb Campbell on January 1, 1696. Her grave is to be seen in the rear of the Presbyterian Church and marked with a brownstone partly covered with moss. It reads: In Memory o f Mary, wife of Caleb Campbell who died 15 February, 1735, aged sixty-seven years and three months. First white child born in Woodbridge.
